瑪姬（梅麗莎·麥卡西MelissaMcCarthy飾）和兒子奧利弗（杰頓·李博赫J(rèn)aedenLieberher飾）兩人過(guò)著相依為命的生活，在巨大的生活壓力之下，瑪姬不得不在醫(yī)院里加班加點(diǎn)的工作賺錢(qián)，自然也就無(wú)力照看年幼的奧利弗。于是，瑪姬將奧利弗托付給了鄰居文森特（比爾·默瑞B(yǎng)illMurray飾）——一位看上去風(fēng)度翩翩的優(yōu)雅老人。然而，真實(shí)的文森特脾氣暴躁，酗酒如命，沉迷賭博，甚至和脫衣舞女達(dá)卡（娜奧米·沃茨NaomiWatts飾）一起帶著奧利弗去夜總會(huì)鬼混。奧利弗目睹了文森特的種種“惡行”，卻用一種孩童式的善意目光進(jìn)行著解讀，隨著時(shí)間的推移，文森特和這個(gè)小男孩之間建立起了堅(jiān)實(shí)的友誼。
